HATS OFF TO THE CCC BOYS!

A New Program Saluting the Legacy of the CCC Workers

EXCELLENT FOR PARKS AND OTHER SITES WITH CCC CONNECTIONS
WHO ARE CELEBRATING THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE CCC IN 2008!

In his acceptance speech at the Democratic convention, presidential candidate Franklin Delano Roosevelt promised Americans a "new deal" to solve the economic problems of the Great Depression. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), from its inception in 1933 until its demise in 1942, was the most popular of all the New Deal programs. The goal of this recovery program was "to enroll single young men in a peacetime army whose purpose was to protect and develop America's natural resources." The camps, run by the Army, provided hungry, out-of-work men with an opportunity to learn how to use tools, take orders and learn respect for their supervisors plus receive $30 a month and 3 good meals a day for their hard earned efforts. You might say "it got the people off the bread lines and into sustainable work."  CCCcamps were located all across America--including Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

In this program celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the CCC, Rich Pawling takes you on a journey through the life of a CCC worker to understand the mission and accomplishments of the Civilian Conservation Corps. History comes alive as the legacy of the C's is connected to the present through songs, music and poetry.
